EMU
Does sheepskin actually keep feet warmer than synthetic fleece? Yes, and the reason comes down to how the material regulates temperature rather than just insulating. Sheepskin traps warm air close to the skin while still allowing moisture to escape, which is why feet stay warm without getting damp the way they can in a synthetic-lined boot. It's the same reason sheepskin has been used in cold-weather gear for centuries before synthetic alternatives existed.
From an Australian Sheepskin Tannery to a Global Comfort Brand
EMU Australia traces back to 1948, when Gordon Jackson founded Jackson's Tannery in South Geelong, Victoria, originally supplying sheepskin boots to other retailers before the company was later renamed EMU Australia under new ownership. That tannery background is part of why EMU's approach to sheepskin has stayed close to its material roots, and while other sheepskin boot brands moved manufacturing overseas in the 1990s, EMU built its reputation on maintaining tighter control over its own production. That same material focus still defines the EMU collection today.
Tall and Mid-Height Boots
The Georgi sits at the taller end of the lineup, offering full calf coverage for genuinely cold mornings, while the Blurred and Thorsby land at a mid-height that's easier to wear with regular pants without bunching. All three sit comfortably alongside the rest of our women's boots collection if you want to compare silhouettes.
What's the Difference Between the Blurred and Stinger Micro Styles?
The Stinger Micro is a shorter, ankle-height boot, more of a casual everyday shoe than a full winter boot, while the Blurred sits higher with more sheepskin coverage for actual cold-weather wear.
Scuff Slippers for Indoor Comfort
The Sharky Scuff and Sharky Adventure Scuff bring the same sheepskin lining into an open-back slipper, easier to slide on and off around the house than a full boot, with the Adventure version adding a firmer outsole for quick trips outside. Both fit naturally alongside our broader women's slippers collection.
Can EMU Slippers Handle a Quick Walk Outside?
The standard Sharky Scuff is built more for indoor use with a softer sole, while the Adventure Scuff's textured rubber outsole is the better pick if stepping outside briefly, onto a porch or to grab the mail, is part of the daily routine.
Built for Kids Too
The Mayberry brings EMU's sheepskin construction down to kids' sizing, a warm, easy pull-on option for cold mornings, and pairs well with the rest of our kids' slippers collection for building out a full cold-weather rotation.
A Few Things Worth Knowing
-
Sheepskin does best with occasional brushing to keep the wool fibers from matting down over time
-
Sizing tends to run true, though the natural material has a bit of initial give that loosens slightly with wear
-
EMU Australia traces back to a 1948 sheepskin tannery in Victoria, Australia
